Congratulations to Joe Mottiqua of Cecil, Pa for signing a contract with the Texas Tornado’s of the NAHL.

The quote and probably the best testimonial that we could have is what Joe’s coach said to him in the 3rd period (of a tryout) after spending 2 periods crushing opponents.  Joe came to the bench after a shift and coach asked, “Joe, are you carrying a gun out there?… Everyone is running away from you!”

In 2 months he’s added 3.5 inches to his vertical and 11 inches to his broad jump.  This is after we performed a lot of corrective exercises to make sure that he could squat and move athletically the way he should.

Trevor Moore Named to the Lacrosse All-Canadian First Team by NLL Insider

Pittsburgh — Robert Morris University Men’s Lacrosse junior Trevor Moore (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) was named to the All-Canadian First Team by NLL Insider. The Canadian native was also a finalist for NLL Insider ’09 Junior Player of the Year.

Moore led his Coquitlam Adanacs team with four goals and 15 assists for 19 points during the 2009 Minto Cup. In the Adanacs 11-10 win over the Brampton Excelsiors he tallied a team-high six assists and one goal, while fellow RMU teammate Corbyn Tao-Brambleby (Coquitlam, B.C./Western Reserve Academy) tallied two goals. In Coquitlam’s win over the Edmonton Eclipse, Moore tallied another one goal, six assist game to lead the team, while Tao-Brambleby tallied one goal and two assists.

Moore and Tao-Brambleby have been two of the Colonials’ top scorers for the past two years at RMU. During the 2009 season Moore led the team in points with 47, assists with 16 and was tied for first with Tao-Brambleby with 31 goals. Tao-Bramableby was right behind Moore with 14 assists and 45 points. He was named CAA Player of the Week following RMU’s 12-11 upset over Penn State. The two juniors led RMU to its best record in program history in 2009 at 9-7.

Mary Kate Eagen.. ESPN  Academic All American

Mary Kate finished up an awesome career at RMU having be named team MVP on both Field Hockey and Lacrosse.  She was named first team All Conference for the NEC this past season in Lacrosse.  ESPN The Magazine named Eagen to the District II Academic All-American at Large Lacrosse Team after carrying a 3.95 GPA in nursing. She ended an outstanding career as an athlete and will carry onto in the “real world” working at Shadyside Hospital in the oncology unit.

Kara Blakeley and Ashley Levering names All NEC in Woman’s Lacrosse

RMU’s goal leader(39), Kara Blakely was named first team All NEC this past season.   Senior attack Ashely Levering was named to the All NEC second team.   Congratulations are a great senior year.  Good luck in the “real world”!

Dan Kerch and Keil Matisz All-CAA Honors

Moon Township, Pa. – May 1, 2009 – The Robert Morris University men’s lacrosse team was honored with two post season honors on Friday by the Colonial Athletic Association league officials. Senior midfielder Dan Kerch (Chesterfield, Mo. / DeSmet) was named to the All-CAA Second Team and freshman Kiel Matisz (Stoney Creek, Ontario / Saltfleet) earned a spot on the CAA All-Rookie Team.

Sherwood/NAHL North Player of the Week March 9, 2009

This is the second time Ryan has received this award. Not to bad for a defender!

Marquette defenseman Ryan McGrath connected for a goal and three assists as the Rangers skated to a 1-0-1 record against Motor City. On Friday, the Pittsburgh native recorded an assist in a 3-2 overtime loss. The next night, the 19-year-old tallied a goal and two more assists, including one on Chad Pietila’s game-winner, as the Rangers bested the Machine 6-2.  He was also a plus-1 on the weekend.

“Ryan was very good at both ends of the rink last weekend, and it was nice to see him rewarded with some points,” said Rangers head coach Kenny Miller.  “We’re counting on a big finish from him as we make our push for the playoffs.”

Kelly Sweeney- Junior Soccer Player in Pittsburgh

Congratulations to Kelly Sweeney, goalie of the Upper St Clair’s Woman’s Soccer Team, on a great Junior year. Her season ended in the first round of the playoffs with a heartbreaking loss to Norwin 1-0. Norwin scored with 55 seconds left in the game to give Norwin the lead. USC finished the year 11-5-2 and 10-2 in Conference play. Kelly only surrendered 9 goals all year long. This resulted in Kelly being named to the AAA Section 5 All Conference Team.  http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08349/935057-362.stm

The USC Girls team voted Kelly “Most Improved Player” and “Defensive Player of the Year”.

Congratulations to  Grant Hunter on  Having a Great Freshman Year Playing Football for the Butler Bulldogs

1st team all Pioneer Football League (PFL)
1st in PFL for sacks, 3rd in all D-I AA for sacks (14)
2nd in PFL for Tackles For Loss (TFL), 11th in all D-I AA for TFL’s (18)

Hunter finished his first competitive season with the Bulldogs with 27 solo tackles, 15 assists, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup. His 14 sacks resulted in 97 yards worth of losses for opponents.

Congratulations to Ryan McGrath on Being Named the Sherood/NAHL North Player of the Week October 27, 2008

Ice Hockey- Marquette defenseman Ryan McGrath(Pittsburgh, Pa) rang up a goal and five assists as the Rangers fashioned a 2-1 record.  On Thursday, the Pittsburgh native tallied four assists in a 6-3 win over Motor City.  The next night, the 18-year-old notched a goal and another assist as the Rangers bested the Machine, 6-4.  He was held scoreless in the Rangers’ 3-0 loss to Alpena on Sunday, but was a plus-two for the weekend.

Another client of Umberger Performance is Ty Blake a Soccer player at Moon High School. Ty had an awesome senior year leading Moon to their first section win since 1994. Ty stats for the 2008 season are as follows: 5 goals, 6 assists (3 game winning goals, 1 game winning assist). Moon lost in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL playoffs 2-0 to Fox Chapel. In the conference, Moon finished 8-2 and 13-5 overall.
